Lyme disease is a major threat to public health and a growing source of chronic illness globally. And it’s a topic that hits close to home. A few years ago a dear friend went from being one of the bubbliest people I knew to a woman who could barely get out of bed. It took several years for her to be properly diagnosed and right now she is undergoing dramatic treatment for the disease.

But she and thousands like her living with Lyme disease have so many unanswered questions. So I tracked down a brilliant expert on the topic, Dr Greg Emerson, to help. This guy is super passionate about life, our planet and about tackling Lyme disease head on. His unrelenting quest to truly understand the disease combined with a genuinely holistic approach to treatment is what really sets him apart from most doctors.

There is so much useful information in this episode and I think it’s vital that we are aware of this disease. Please share this with others who you think it may help.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • What is Lyme disease & What are the symptoms
  • Some of the conspiracy theories around Lyme disease
  • How Lyme disease is contracted
  • Why so many people have undiagnosed Lyme disease
  • How Lyme disease can lie dormant in healthy people
  • The 3 best ways to test for Lyme disease
  • Implications for pregnant women
  • The treatment alternatives and what works best in different scenarios
  • 3 Fast Track tips to health & happiness and feeling energised again.

So far in this WEB episode series (check out Part1 & Part2) of “Is Organic Food Better For You” we’ve looked at the definition of what certified organic means, how to identify a product that is truly certified organic when shopping and that when it comes to overall nutritional value, freshly picked organic fruits and vegies are better for you than non organic because of the increased quantities of antioxidants that you’ll be consuming.

So now in Part3 of the series, we’re going to look at “What are the risks associated with non organic food” because the risks are what can potentially have the biggest effect on our energy levels and overall wellbeing.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • How organic compares to non-organic when looking at concentrations of the toxic heavy metal cadmium
  • Why cadmium is such a concern for our health
  • The incredible reduction in pesticide residue in people's urine that results from eating organic produce for a week
  • How the exposure to pesticide residue in foods impacts our health
  • How organic chicken and pork reduces your exposure to antibiotic-resistant bacteria
  • Which type of milk children should drink to possibly reduce their eczema.

Not only is human breast milk an incredible source of nutrition, it also plays a key role in protection against infection and inflammation and contributing to immune development, organ development, and a healthy gut. On this episode, we have lactation Guru, Lori J. Isenstadt, to bare the ins and outs of breast feeding and human milk. Lori is a passionate childbirth educator, a birth doula and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who has taught classes since 1987 in hospitals, birth centers and private homes of clients.

So in the last WEB episode 06 of this “Is Organic Food Better For You” series we looked at the definition of what certified organic means, which included terms such as produce grown free from synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides, sewage, fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics and Genetically Modified Organisms. And then I described the markings or logos that you should become familiar with to ensure that the produce you are purchasing is certified organic such as the USDA logo in the United States or the NASAA logo in Australia.

In this episode we look at one of the most often debated topics surrounding organic foods; whether or not they are more nutritious for you compared to so called conventional foods or non organic foods.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • How organic compares to non-organic if only comparing essential nutrients (nutrients that are essential to our survival)
  • The best way to get the most nutritious produce you can get
  • How organic fruits and vegetables compare with their non-organic counterparts in terms of antioxidants
  • The role antioxidants play in our energy levels
  • If considering all nutritional value researched, which is best - organic or non-organic?
  • The meanings of Biodynamic and Demeter Biodynamic

Raw milk is a natural, highly nutritious whole food that unfortunately is not available legally for many people around the world. Why? Well the big reason is because milk is prone to contamination by bacteria (good and bad) from cows and the environment, that could cause severe illness in humans. But, what if quality controlled and regulated food handling standards and production processes were put in place at dairies to ensure a premium, safe product was produced? And what if the farmer had an open policy and educated the public and other farmers about their processes and procedures?

Well that is what Organic Pastures Dairy has been doing in the state of California since the early 2000's with great success for the benefit of both them and consumers.

In this episode of TheEdTalks we have an informative discussion with inspirational founder and CEO Mark McAfee. He’s an internationally recognized expert in raw milk safety and production, hailing from an experienced background as a medical educator and is truly passionate about whole food nutrition and its importance in feeling energized and being healthy and happy.

Tweet: Raw milk can be produced and consumed safely. Dairy expert Mark McAfee explains how in Ep14.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • The rationale why you would want to consume raw milk
  • Why raw milk is considered a whole food
  • The complex differences between pasturized and raw milks
  • The best way to nourish growing children
  • Illnesses related to raw and pasteurized milks
  • How to easily test if the milk you brought is of a high quality or not
  • Questions you can ask farmers to ensure you are getting a high quality product
  • What causes raw milks to taste so different
  • Why raw milk isn’t currently widely accepted
  • Foods to avoid in supermarkets
