In the last Energy Boost episode 19 I discussed why being dehydrated in the morning will result in your body having less energy and a simple 3 step scientific method to determine whether or not you are in fact dehydrated. You can check out that episode here for more info.

In this episode I discuss the key ingredient that has a direct effect on our mental and physical energy when we consume chocolate. A well made chocolate can be delicious and it's been mentioned many times that as a bonus it can be beneficial to us, although an excess of other fillers such as sugar can quickly negate any benefits. But the key ingredient being cacao becomes a confusing subject when you hear other words thrown around like raw cacao or cocoa or Dutch processed cocoa powder with lots of claims made for one over the other. You can easily learn by listening to this short Energy Boost episode of TheEdTalks what is actually best for you - raw cacao, cocoa or some other version of the dark brown treat most of us enjoy.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • The difference between Raw Cacao, Cocoa, Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder and Natural Cocoa Powder
  • The important role Cacao played in the Aztec empire
  • Why Cacao beans are fermented
  • What role chocolate played in the longest confirmed recorded lifespan
  • The amazing benefits associated with consumption of Cacao, Cocoa and Chocolate
  • The stimulant found in Cacao, Cocoa and Chocolate that it lethal to dogs
  • The negatives associated with Cacao, Cocoa and Chocolate
  • Why milk may not be a beneficial addition in chocolate bars and chocolate drinks
  • Why lead poisoning is a good excuse to prevent children from eating too much chocolate
  • How much is too much.

In the last Energy Boost episode 18  I dived into the Brazil nut which I discovered is in fact a seed and how it may protect us against cancer, improve sexual performance and boost our metabolism; so a biggy when it comes to our energy levels. But you can definitely do harm to yourself if you eat more than a few each day because of selenium toxicity and it’s definitely not a good idea to be giving kids too many Brazil nuts. You can check out that episode here for more info.

In this episode of TheEdTalks I bring us back to the importance of water and our energy, which is a topic that I’ve talked about before in WEB Episode 3 and WEB Episode 4, but in this episode focusing on new science. Quality water has been such a key part in improving my energy levels that it is always worthy of discussing and a big reason why I bring it up again is because there have been lots of articles recently about drinking too much water, which is definitely not a good thing, but the focus for the most part of these articles are on studies that say most people are adequately hydrated. Well that is definitely not the case for me first thing in the morning and I imagine it’s the same for many of you. So to make it easy to check, science has come up with a new simple, more reliable 3 step method which you can easily learn by listening to this short Energy Boost episode of TheEdTalks.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • How much of our body is made up of water
  • How much water we may actually loose during sleep
  • The huge impact that morning dehydration may have on our energy levels
  • The link between water and other morning habits
  • Why too much water is bad for your energy and wellbeing
  • How to get your physical and mental energy off to a great start
  • Why just checking the colour of your urine is not a perfect indicator of dehydration
  • 3 steps to check if you are adequately hydrated in the morning.

Most people I think love thongs and I’m talking about the onesyou put on your feet, although I’m sure the other type of thong isalso loved by many – ha ha, he he - made my simple mind have achuckle! Flip flops, thongs, jandals or what ever you like to callthem are such a winner as they’re easy to slip on and off, they letyourfeet breath and they’re comfy – what’snot to like? Yes they can look a little daggy when you wearthem with a pair of white socks (like I unashamedly do), but whenyou learn of various problems attributed to thong style flip flopuse such as muscle soreness, back and hip pain and possibly clawingof toes it becomes evident how a humble pair of thongs can leave usfeeling fatigued and adding another burden to our energylevels.

Podiatrist (or as referred to in the UK, Chiropodist) Dr. BrieShepherdson educates us with simple yet powerful advice on makingthe right decision in regards to our feet and footwear andimportantly that of our children.

In this episode you’lldiscover:

In the past few Energy Boost (EB) episodes of TheEdTalks I’ve been focusing on superfoods. Particular foods that are overflowing with goodness or exhibit a few particular traits that can be extremely beneficial for us. In the last Energy Boost episode 17  I discussed the superfood Acai. It is definitely a powerhouse when it comes to antioxidants, nutrition and consequently energy, but deceptive marketing and the inclusion of other not so healthy ingredients in acai products, can negate its benefits and definitely does not justify its high price tag. You can check out that episode here.

In this episode I discuss a nut which I discovered is in fact a seed. And that is the Brazil nut or should I now be saying The Brazil seed? I’ll go with nut as that seems to be what’s stuck. The Brazil nut is not your average nut for many reasons but some biggies are that it may protect us against cancer, boost our metabolism and get you rocking when it comes to the loving department. But you can definitely do harm to yourself if you go on a Brazil nut bender and start chowing down handfuls of them.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • Where most of the Brazil nuts come from
  • The amazing facts about the Brazil nut tree
  • Why they can be so good for our energy
  • Why they can keep you looking good
  • The essential trace mineral that makes Brazil nuts so special
  • How the nut can help if you are trying to conceive
  • The benefits linked with Brazil nuts and thyroid health
  • How they may be protective and improve survival against various types cancers
  • The severe symptoms that may arise from eating too many (more than 2/day)
  • The dangerous connection between aflotoxins and Brazil nuts
  • Why you should never buy Brazil nuts from big tubs/bins
  • The best way to store Brazil nuts to stop them going rancid.
