I'm sure at some point you have read about or heard about the negative health impacts that may result from sitting too much, such as diabetes and heart disease. This sedentary lifestyle that so many people are locked into for most of the day results in less physical activity and there’s plenty of evidence suggesting that that’s bad for your health.

But for lots of us this is the reality of life in order to earn an income. So how can you combat sitting too much? Well thankfully there are lots of things we can do and on this episode of TheEdTalks we speak with movement expert Muriel Morwitzer, who helps us understand how we can better approach a non sitting lifestyle.

Movement of your body plays an important role in living a healthier and more fulfilling and energized life. I know first hand that when I was struck down with a severe back injury and not being able to take a few steps without excruciating pain for months, that the lack of movement began to affect my overall health andhugely my mental state of mind. So I’m always searching for ways to help me ensure that I’ll still be able to go surfing when I’m 60, play sports with my grandkids and just generally be able to move freely and without pain. To shed some light on the topic we have a fascinating discussion with Dr. Kelly Starrett, who is a doctor of Physical therapy, coach, author and speaker.

In this episode you’ll discover:

  • The importance of a complete physical practice
  • What may be causing you to feel stiff
  • Simple ways to improve your child's health
  • Why posture and restoration techniques can lead to other problems
  • Why you should seek professional help with your movement practice
  • Ways to overcome over sitting
  • How to utilise pain to help you move correctly
  • An easy way to discover if you have physical issues that need to be addressed
  • How to sleep better
  • 3 ways to help you feel energised again.
